SPEARS, A Painting

SPEARS was painted prior to the 2002 issues of and about war.  Because, in this painting, inscriptions are
weapons, but were not inspired by political times.  When I painted this, I was thinking about weapons and
weaponry in an athletic sense, not about cultures and cultural imagery, but was, rather, considering the glory
that coincides with a moment of a perfect toss, the worth of mastery of movement in and of itself.  Whether
enjoyment indicates a righteous work or not, probably, ultimately, depends upon the thrower of the spear:
authorship is potent.  Some inscriptions are indelible.
