9/11

This was painted in the days following the tragic events of that fateful day
of September 11, 2001, in response to the terrible wasting of humanity,
hearts and hopes.

I also felt ineffective as an individual following the horrific negation of our
society as were the events of that day, since I was thousands of miles
away from the events, not able to lend a hand.  So, I turned to the
physicality of painting, if only to take action.  My intention in this work was
to honor the valor of those who perished in the dreadful events with this
depiction of upright strength, 'undestructed' structure despite the
convolution of forms, the permanence of the changes made, all things
considered, everything realigned but still lined up and organized despite
the destruction.

This painting is included in the Permanent Collection of the
Library of
Congress September 11, 2001 Digital Archive.
